Sunny days have brought me back to the dunes. These are both from the same afternoon almost two weeks ago.

The top one was obviously done first before the sky had begun 'turning' the colour wheel. At this point in the process the sky is usually a crispy sort of lime yellow. Once the colours begin moving, it spins quickly so I don't have a leisurely moment to spare. The first one is OK, but I really liked the second one when the shifting sky began to accelerate the speed of the colours. This night was particularly rich and nuanced in a most subtle way. I enjoyed it.

Daylight Savings kicked in for us here in New South Wales last weekend so the afternoon 'appeared' to linger longer. Of course nothing has really changed, it's more in the imagination but being of Mediterranean spirit, it feels already like the relaxed easiness of a summer evening. Nice, although a friend told me she hates it because she has to leave home in the dark for the long drive to work.

The first one (top) feels more 'modern' than the second one which appears more 'classical'. Why It's hard to say but maybe the second one has a more painterly feel to it, it's reminiscent of an older tradition of the Seascape genre. I also especially like the colour combinations right over the horizon when the colour wheel reveals all the wonders of what one can do with grey.

The first one also feels flatter, and a little more abstract with less attention to distance too. Anyway, nice to back out there a few times each week whenever the sky looks promising. News in the US is so grim that I need these therapy sessions.
